Publications contribute first and foremost to theory forming and the discourse of art. In addition, as an overlapping counterpart to exhibitions, they constitute a permanent record of research findings (to be incorporated into a reader or other educational material), of a commission, or of the theme of an exhibition, in which case it helps to stimulate further in-depth exploration of the theme.
